If you hunt with dogs, consider putting kennel crates in the truck.
A hunting truck serves a utilitarian purpose. The rig gets you to the hunt and transports your prey after the day. In addition, the truck acts as "home base" for the hunt. Having the proper gear and equipment in the hunting truck means anticipating potential snags and making sure the appropriate tools are available.
Instructions
1. Change the tires to mud or off-road rubber. Chances are high that the truck will go off-road, necessitating aggressive mud or off-road tires.
2. Install a power winch to the front of the truck. A winch will help drag the truck out of mud or anywhere it gets stuck. The winch assists in getting heavy items out of quagmires, and helps get heavy animals into the truck. Keep a set of ratchet straps and bungee cords as well. Use these to secure the animal to the truck for transport. Keep a red flag in the truck as many states require oversized items to have a red flag attached to the end of the item during transport.
3. Install a lock-down and weatherproof bed toolbox to the truck. Store an emergency medical kit, ammunition boxes, flares and other supplies in the box. Lock it down when in the field and on the hunt. Have gun racks installed in the cab of the truck.
4. Secure dog kennel crates to the bed of the truck if you hunt with dogs. Carry a five gallon jug of water with sponges to wash down the bed or hood after hauling the animal onto the truck.
5. Keep twine and plastic bags available to store small animals or any field-butchered meat. Store the meat in a cooler.
