Clean A Miteinfested House

Vacuum frequently to get rid of mite infestations.

Mites are tiny insect-like pests that you cannot see with the naked eye. You may not be able to see mites, but you may notice their presence through allergy symptoms and itchy bites. Dust mites, chigger mites and itch mites are common in the household. Cleaning your house on a regular basis can keep your house from being mite-infested.

Instructions

1. Vacuum carpets, drapes and even your bare mattresses to eliminate mites from their hiding places. Develop a weekly vacuuming schedule to keep the mite infestation low. Tie off vacuum cleaner bags and trash bags securely before discarding. Steam-clean or shampoo rugs once or twice a year to control mite populations.

2. Dust the surfaces of your home regularly as part of your complete house cleaning routine. Dust mites are more prevalent when dust and debris settles on counters, bookcases and other areas of the home.

3. Wash all bedding, clothing and washable window coverings in hot water to kill the mites that have infested your home and belongings. Use your regular laundry detergent and water that reaches at least 77 degrees Fahrenheit.

4. Keep pillows and mattress clean and clear from mites with protective covers. Plastic coverings can kill existing mites and make future infestations more difficult. Place the plastic underneath your mattress pad, sheets and pillowcases for optimum comfort.

5. Manage the moisture level in your home to get rid of mites and to prevent the development of mold. Mites are more likely to flourish in humid environments. Equip your home with a dehumidifier to keep the air dry.
