Kill Kennel Smells

Eliminating the odor in your pet's kennel can be accomplished by cleaning it.

A kennel serves as a safe place to keep your canine pal when you aren't home or to keep him out of trouble when you aren't looking. If a dog spends any considerable time in a kennel, a noticeable smell will develop as your furry friend relieves himself or gets caught in the rain, leading to a lingering wet dog aroma. Keeping the kennel clean is an important part of eliminating these odors. An unclean kennel is both unpleasant and unhealthy for you and your pet.

Instructions

1. Clear everything out of the kennel such as dog toys, bedding, and your pet.

2. Clean up any excrement with a scooper or paper towels and discard it immediately. Blot up fresh urine with paper towels and discard them, too.

3. Sweep the floor of the kennel to eliminate dirt and debris.

4. Add 1 cup of white vinegar to 3 cups of water in a bucket and stir in 1 tbsp. of powdered bleach-free laundry detergent.

5. Pour the solution directly onto stained areas to completely saturate the area.

6. Scrub the solution into the stain to remove it with a coarse-bristled brush.

7. Add bleach-free powdered laundry detergent to a bucket of warm water to make it sudsy.

8. Pour the soapy water liberally over the cement floor and scrub with a push broom to thoroughly clean the floor.

9. Squeegee the water out of the kennel to avoid pools of standing water so it can dry quickly.

10. Allow the floor to dry completely and sprinkle baking soda all over the floor.

11. Leave the baking soda on the floor for at least an hour; overnight is optimal. The baking soda helps to kill off any odors that may be lingering.

12. Sweep away the baking soda with a broom and dustpan and throw it away.
