Set Paper On Thick Paper In Indesign

A piece of heavy card stock will help to keep your paper standing upright.

Adobe InDesign allows you to design and create specialty brochures and books. Once you have designed your ideal layout, you will probably want to print it on something other than plain copy paper. Printing out your design on thick paper will make your book look much more professional. All you need for printing on thick paper is to change the print settings in InDesign, and in your inkjet printer.

Instructions

1. Set up your printer. Place a piece of stiff card stock or thin cardboard that is the same size as your paper in the printer. Load the paper in front of the card stock, making sure not to load more than five pieces at once. Alter the paper tray guides to ensure that there is a slight gap on each side of the paper.

2. Alter your printer's settings. Open your printer settings panel in the Control Panel. Navigate to the Maintenance tab, then choose "Printer and Option Information." Check the box that says "Thick Paper." When you are done printing on thick paper, remember to un-check the box.

3. Change the paper type on InDesign. With your InDesign document open, go to the File menu and choose "Print." A dialog box will open. Click "Print Setup," choose your printer, and then "Preferences." From the Paper Type pull-down menu, choose "Thick paper," and click "Save."

4. Print the first page of your document as a test. Thick paper can be expensive, so you want to make sure that your printer is feeding correctly. If the paper does not feed easily, try curling the ends a little bit with your hands, and try printing the first page again.

5. Print the entire InDesign booklet on thick paper once the document is printing correctly.
