Canine Training Schools In Iowa

Well-behaved dogs make for happy dog owners.

Happy, well-behaved dogs can bring great joy to a home. But an unruly pup or overly aggressive dog can make life miserable. Whether you need help in teaching your pooch basic commands and good behavior, or if you've got a dog with more serious issues, a professional may be able to offer assistance.

Midwest Dog Training

Midwest Dog Training is a chain of dog training schools in Iowa that serves several cities: Des Moines, Sioux City, Council Bluffs, Sergeant Bluff, Lemars, Cherokee, Storm Lake and Urbandale. Midwest offers in-home training with personalized one-on-one sessions that promise to work out any problems within three weeks. The company also offers board-and-train programs that allow you to leave the dog at a Midwest facility. Basic puppy-training classes focusing on crate training, chewing, jumping and other puppy problems are also available.

MyTDog

If you're interested in basic dog training focusing on commands such as sit, down, stay, etc., MyTDog promises results in four weeks with its remote-collar training program. Owner/trainer Sue Barnes and business partner Kris Rose serve clients in Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Coon Rapids and Kansas City. In addition to basic group classes, there's a 10- to 14-day individualized board and train program. You drop off your dog and they return a well-trained pooch to you. MyTDog then works with you and the dog to understand the training.

The company also offers agility and hunting training and is involved in the Dock Dog competition world, in which dogs compete by leaping off a dock into water. MyTDog offers a training warranty which allows you to attend a future class if you and your dog need a brush-up.

K9s with Class

K9s with Class is owned and operated by Iowa dog trainers Tim and Kathy Evans. The Evanses offer basic training classes in a group setting, private lessons and a three-week day-training program in which you drop your dog off twice a week and they do the training. To ensure a manageable environment, classes are kept small in size. The Evanses follow the Koehler method of dog training, which involves using a choke chain collar to promote correct behavior.
