Non-profit animal shelters help rescue and care for homeless and abused animals.
While many people treat their pets like family members, some animals are treated cruelly and subjected to horrible living conditions. Sometimes, these creatures are successfully rescued through the efforts of non-profit animal shelters, established for improving animal welfare. Such shelters and rescue homes survive mainly through donations, volunteer work and grants from animal organizations and individuals.
American Humane Association Grants
The American Humane Association provides grants to certified shelters and rescue groups.
The American Humane Association provides grants for animal welfare and safety, from two main sources. The Meacham Foundation Memorial Grant offers thousands of dollars for equipment and building improvements, for shelters. Requests may be made in January and February, only. The second source is the Second Chance Fund. The grant is given only to member rescue groups and shelters, for temporary upkeep of animals waiting for adoption.

The Animal Grantmakers Grant
Animal Grantmakers helps to further public awareness concering animal welfare.
The Animal Grantmakers is a group of foundations and organizations that provide philanthropic grants for the health and welfare of animals worldwide, including domestic pets, farm animals, free-range animals and research animals. These grants not only provide funding for non-profit animal shelters, but also are used to promote public awareness of animal well-being and to encourage further philanthropic funding and involvement.

ASPCA Grants
The ASPCA provides grants for U.S.-based, nonprofit animal shelters.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) offers grants ranging to U.S.-based nonprofit animal shelter organizations. The ASPCA granted nearly $5 million to nonprofit organizations in 2009. To learn more about the ASPCA or request information about obtaining a grant, you must submit a letter of inquiry directly through the organization's website.
