Dog Fundraiser Ideas

Fundraising can help canines in need of support .

Fundraising for dogs encourages community involvement, provides a catalyst for additional fundraising opportunities and seeks to support our four-legged friends who may find themselves in between homes, sick or abused. Local and national agencies, such as the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, depend on donations and fundraisers to assist animals within their shelters and to lend assistance to families who require additional help with veterinarian bills and food.

Merchandise Sales

Organizing fundraisers that focus on providing attendees and donors with merchandise in exchange for a donation can bring in money for canine causes. Gather your friends, family and community members to help make your merchandise sales successful. Consider hosting a bake sale or yard sale, as recommended by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Customize your bake sale by offering treats for canines, such as homemade dog biscuits, in addition to treats for humans. Other ideas include hosting a raffle or auction and donating the proceeds to dog-related organizations.

Outdoor Events

Consider hosting an event that allows dogs and dog-owners to participate for a good cause. Ask your local community to participate in a pet parade. Offer various ways for attendees to join in on the fun by planning several competitions during the parade and requesting donations from entrants. Options include awards and prizes for best dressed and most obedient. Instead of hosting a general car wash, consider bathing your furry friends for a donation. Check with local businesses and pet stores for information on the use of their parking lots for the festivities.

Individual Ideas

Successful fundraisers don't always stem from group activities or large events. You can make a difference on an individual level by participating in fundraising activities throughout the year. Collect any money you earn from dog-related activities specifically for fundraising. Advertise pet services such as dog-sitting and grooming, and advise that any money earned or raised go to a local shelter or dog advocacy group. When it comes to dogs, consider raising money and requesting food donations as part of any fundraising campaign. Personally request donations from local businesses, including dog food from feed- and pet-related stores, to help support the canine members of the community.
