As pet owners live increasingly busy lifestyles, they search for convenient ways to simplify their daily routines. With a mobile pet grooming business, you can provide quality services at their front door. Pets are often calmer and easier to groom when they are in familiar surroundings. Start planning your new mobile grooming service today.
Instructions
1. Determine your start-up cost. Make a list of the inventory you will need and decide if you will purchase a pre-equipped van, or convert one of your own. Converting one is less expensive, but you will need plumbing and electrical knowledge.
2. Prepare a business plan. This is imperative if you will be seeking financing from a lender. The Small Business Administration offers free detailed instructions for writing a business plan and tips for obtaining financing (see Resources).
3. Call your State's licensing board to obtain any needed licenses to get started. In addition, you will have to get a Federal ID number for tax purposes. The government provides a free online form you can fill out to apply for your Federal ID. (See Resources)
4. Design your mobile grooming van with catchy phrases and pictures. Paw prints and soap bubbles are good choices. Choose a name for your service that represents your furry clients and grooming.
5. Contact your local newspaper and ask if they will run a story in their business section about your new venture. Request that they publish a photo and print a contact number where interested persons can reach you.
6. Advertise by taking out ads in the local media and posting flyers and brochures in veterinarian's offices. Speak with the doctor face-to-face to explain your services and ask if you can leave some business cards for referrals. Many veterinarian offices have a bulletin board where you can post information.
7. Keep detailed records of all your purchases, fuel expenses, supplies, advertising casts and the income you receive from your mobile grooming services. Consider taking a small business accounting class to understand your tax liability, profit and future earning potential.
