The ZIP roofing system consists of a structural wood panel with a built-in moisture barrier. The added moisture barrier eliminates the need to secure felt paper to the installed wooden panel. Each seam of an installed ZIP roof system requires tape to keep water from penetrating the roof system. A ZIP tape gun speeds up the process of applying tape to the roof seams. Properly applied ZIP tape will bond tight to the roof panel with no air bubbles remaining under the tape.
Instructions
1. Set a ZIP system tape gun on a firm surface with the internal rolls facing up and the front of the gun pointing to your left.
2. Slide a roll of ZIP tape on the green tape spool with the loose end of tape facing toward the front of the gun. Twist the gray handle -- located in the center of the green spool -- clockwise until it clicks over the tape.
3. Pull the loose end of the tape over the orange roll sitting to the left of the green roll and through the center of the two aluminum rolls at the front of the gun.
4. Peel the backing paper from the bottom of the tape. Lift the orange roll up. Slide the end of the backing paper into the slot of the roll. Release the roll to hold the backing paper. Wrap the tape over the take-up roll located on the front edge of the ZIP tape gun.
5. Press the end of the tape wrapped on the take-up roll over the end of a ZIP panel seam. Pull the tape gun along the seam while applying pressure toward the roof panel. Adjust the tension of the tape gun by turning the inside of the orange roll with a pair of needle nose pliers. Cut the tape to length with a utility knife.
6. Flip the gray handle counterclockwise and remove the empty tape roll from of the ZIP tape gun.
