Italian greyhounds

Italian greyhounds look like small greyhounds even though their owners often dispute this fact. The American Kennel Club defines them as genetic greyhounds whose stature and temperament have been modified through selective breeding. Italian greyhounds are often called IGs and are considered part of the toy group of dogs since they average only 10 lbs in weight. Like their cousins, the greyhounds, they have a very distinctive slender body and legs, with a long neck and small head. They, too, are very fast runners and can run at speeds of up to 25 miles an hour.
No-Slip Collar
Regular dog collars do not work well on IGs.
Like their larger counterparts, Italian greyhounds have necks that are larger than their heads, so regular dog collars cannot be used on them since they would just slip off. Fitted collars that come in different designs and colors are an unusual but welcome gift for these dogs. These lurched collars are made to measure for your dog so that it won't slip off its head. Another great gift is a martingale collar which tightens in a safe manner when and if the dog pulls so that it cannot be slipped off.

Apparel
Italian greyhounds are very lean dogs with little body fat so they often need a little extra warmth during the winter. Check the various Internet websites for different coat designs for unusual apparel gifts for Italian greyhounds. Coats come in a variety of colors and materials. Some are made of synthetic fabrics so that they don't tear easily while others are made from natural fibers to provide warmth. IG coats are designed so that they will not be soiled when dogs urinate or pass a bowel movement and are also constructed so that the dog can freely move and run.
