Plastic greenhouse panels are alternatives to polyethylene plastic.
A greenhouse is any type of structure that has a clear plastic or glass covering. For commercial production, simple high tunnels may be made with polyethylene
plastic stretched over a frame. But for a more durable structure, a gardener may choose to cover their greenhouse in a rigid corrugated plastic panel. Corrugated panels resemble corrugated cardboard. These panels are lightweight and will bend and flex like plastic for covering hoop houses, high tunnels or traditional greenhouse structures, but will not puncture the way that plastic will.
Instructions
1. Wash each panel with a sponge and mop bucket using a mild detergent. Allow each panel to dry before continuing.
2. Apply aluminum tape to the edges of all panels. The aluminum tape keeps dust, dirt and moisture out of the cells between the two walls of the panels.
3. Turn the panels so that the ribs within them run up and down rather than side to side. Press each panel against the side of the greenhouse. The panel will bend along the greenhouse frame. The greenhouse panel must be bent to at least 150 times its thickness. For example, a 4.5 mm thick panel must bend at least 2 inches or it will kink, warp or have a shortened life span.
4. Insert four neoprene washer into four screws. Attach each panel at its corners, using the screws. Attach each panel to the support below it with the screws and washers at a point 6 inches inside of the panel's edges. Attach each panel in a way that allows for each panel to expand during installation at a rate of 1/8 inch per 3 square feet of panel.
5. Caulk between the panels using a caulk recommended by the manufacturer of the panels. Caulking helps to seal the spaces between the panels and prevents moisture from escaping.
