West Virginia Canine Training Schools

West Virginia does not have state regulations for becoming a dog trainer, so it's worthwhile doing some research first and looking for schools or trainers that are certified. One national certification is a Certification for Pet Dog Trainers granted by the Certification Council for Pet Dog Trainers. You will be better assured of professional service this way. The training involves working with a trainer to teach your dog simple commands such as sit and lay down, teaching him not to pull on the leash and helping him break other bad habits such as constant barking.

Precision K-9 Services

These trainers offer lessons on basic commands, behavior modification and aggression problems. The classes are open to anyone and to all breeds of dog. They take time to get to know your dog to better understand his needs, and will teach him one-to-one. Classes are designed to start with basic lessons and gradually develop into the advanced stage. This gives your dog time to adapt without needless stress. The business was established in 1996, and the owners have 30 years of training and experience.

Randolph County Dog Obedience School

This school helps dog owners learn the basics of obedience training. You will learn to teach your dogs commands such as heel, sit-stay, lay down, stand still and halt-sit. You will also learn handling methods. You'll learn about training based on reward and punishment as well as praise your dog, letting him know you are pleased with him. The school is sponsored by the Randolph County 4-H Leaders Organization and is coordinated by Dr. Frank Mams.

Campbell's Canine Camp

This camp was founded by Adam and Susanna Campbell. They are professional dog trainers and offer classes for puppies and private lessons. They provide stress-free training services and begin by developing a relationship of trust with each dog, taking time to better understand their personalities before working on the training methods. The school also offers behavior modification classes, and it is a registered boarding facility.

Red Barn Branch and Labradors, LLC

This is a small, family owned kennel and Labrador breeders facility located in the Shenandoah Valley. They also offer dog training classes. Sandy Stokes, ABC certified dog trainer and ABC graduate is the trainer. They offer group lessons, private lessons and in-house training sessions for all breeds of dog, young or old. They will help you train your dog to behave at home and in public, teaching him good habits and consistent behavior. Training for puppies will include housebreaking and crate training.
