Petsmart provides grants to help pets.
Petsmart, one of the nation's largest pet supply chains, gives back to the community through the company's foundational wing, Petsmart Charities. Through Petsmart Charities grants, nonprofit 501(c)3 animal welfare organizations and municipal shelters receive funds for various needs. These groups may may bring homeless animals to local Petsmarts to encourage adoptions and find these pets new, loving homes.
Spay/Neuter Grants
Reducing the pet overpopulation problem is a primary focus of Petsmart Charities, and it offers several grant opportunities to nonprofit organizations dedicated to that cause. These include the Free Roaming Cat/Spay Neuter Program, which provides money and planning for Trap-Neuter-Release programs for feral cats. The Targeted Spay/Neuter Program identifies a part of the community that particularly needs low-cost animal sterilization services, whether due to economics, demographics or specific animal populations. The Spay/Neuter Equipment Program provides grants for purchase of equipment to expand or start high-volume animal sterilization clinics, in which a minimum of 75 percent of operations are performed on animals belonging to the public, not in shelters.
Animal Agency and Shelter Grants
Each quarter, Petsmart provides a grant to an animal welfare agency through its Model Volunteering Program. Eligible groups must document the way volunteer help is best used for helping animals. Winning agencies' strategies may become part of Petsmart's best practices recommendations for animal welfare groups.
Rescue Waggin grants aid shelters partnering with Petsmart when the facility becomes an official destination shelter. These shelters, which must have strong volunteer programs, agree to accept adoptable puppies and dogs from other areas, without displacement of its own shelter animals. Other shelters participate as source shelters, those which have a high number of adoptable dogs and puppies, but high rates of euthanization. Canines from the source shelter are sent to the destination shelter for adoption. Both groups receive grants for dog training and other opportunities, and source shelters receive funding for transportation, shelter improvements and veterinary treatment.
Emergency Help
Nonprofit 501(c)3 animal welfare organizations may request emergency relief grants from Petsmart. Funding is provided for three emergency areas. These are large-scale disasters, including floods and hurricanes; rescue situations involving multiple animals, such as hoarders or cruelty; and single animal violence or abuse victims. Individual rescuers are ineligible for this funding. Petsmart may also provide trailers to rescue large numbers of companion animals or horses.
Other Grants
Petsmart provides separate grants for Canadian nonprofit animal welfare agencies. It also funds conference sponsorship grants for U.S. municipal and nonprofit animal welfare agencies to send employees or members to events. Individuals unaffiliated with a nonprofit organization may not apply. Those conferences focusing on spay/neuter, training, homeless pets care and adoption and management for animal nonprofit organizations receive priority consideration.
