A Scotty dog, also known as a Scottish Terrier, originated in Scotland in the early 1700s and was brought to the United States during the 19th century. The dogs were first used to hunt small animals such as rabbits, foxes and badgers. Scottish Terriers are active little dogs, usually weighing no more than 20 pounds and growing no taller than 10 or 11 inches. Their fur is quite wiry and requires regular grooming.
