Cheap Methods To Transport Pets

There are a variety of ways to affordably transport your pet.

Transporting a pet from one place to another can often seem like a hassle. Fortunately, there are many companies and services that offer comparable rates and amenities to keep your pet comfortable. Finding the right pet transportation to fit your budget and your needs requires comparing what options are available.

In-Cabin Flights

Some airlines such as AirTran Airways, Spirit Airlines, U.S. Airways and Jetblue offer in-cabin flights for pets. Pets on these flights must be small enough to fit in a carrier under your seat. AirTran is the least expensive with flights as low as $69.00 in 2011 for a one-way ticket. Most U.S. airline carriers offer one-way flights between $100 and $125. PetAirways is the only airline exclusively for pets, with one-way flights as low as $99.00 in 2011, and no size restrictions. This airline provides a pet attendant who checks on pets every 15 minutes.

Cargo Flights

Alaska Airlines and Midwest Airlines are the cheapest airlines that fly pets as cargo with prices as low as $100, as of 2011. Frontier Airlines has prices ranging between $100 and $200. None of these airlines charge additional first or second bag fees for your kennel, though you could be charged if you have more than two bags.

Ground Shipping

Small Animal Delivery exclusively ships dogs, cats and other small animals. It offers both local and nationwide delivery, and includes shipping containers with everything your pet will need other than food. Its prices are comparable to most airline carriers. Uship is an online service where pet shipping companies bid for your business in online auctions. The participating companies are rated by customers, which can help you in choosing which one to select. This bidding format can also help you find the best rate.

Animal Rescue Transport

Several organizations offer volunteer animal rescue transportation. Animal Rescue Flights delivers pets from an airport near you to your destination airport. Volunteer pilots use their own planes for these flights. Colorado Animal Rescue Express transports animals by van from 10 states including Kansas, Missouri, Texas, and New Mexico. Pilots N Paws links up pilots and volunteers online to provide air transportation for rescued animals.
