If you're looking to start a business in Louisiana, you will need to acquire a business license before you open your doors. You can apply for a Louisiana business license through your local government.
Instructions
1. Access the Louisiana Secretary of State website to obtain information regarding business structures and license-issuing agencies. In Louisiana, business licenses are issued through your local or parish governments. Tax numbers are also required for state, local and federal governments. Select the appropriate license type for your business. Contact the Louisiana Small Business Development agency regarding business licensing questions, management and business plan development. Inquire about the different types of licenses that certain businesses need to function in the state.
2. Select the license designated for your business. Applications can be completed online or in person at the local government building in your area. You will need to supply an identification, corporate charter or partnership agreement. Depending on your business, additional information may be required, such as credentials, proof of insurance or course completion.
3. Submit your application and supporting documentation to the license-issuing agency in your area. Ensure that all items are signed and notarized. Include the license fee with check or certified funds. Business license applications are usually processed and mailed out within two to four weeks
