Free Boarding Schools

Milton Hershey and his wife, Catherine, created a free school for orphans.


The United States offers many opportunities for less fortunate children to learn, grow and improve their lives. Tuition-free boarding schools exist and have been funded by philanthropic individuals and companies who wish to give back to the world community. Free boarding schools give students the opportunity to take charge of their lives by taking responsibility for their choices and their future.


Milton Hershey School


Founded in 1909 by Milton and Catherine Hershey, Milton Hershey School is a free boarding school dedicated to helping orphaned and needy children receive a better education and a real shot at success in life. Milton Hershey School accepts children ages four to 16. They provide full room, board, education, medical, dental and clothing expenses free of charge for those who qualify. Their campus is state of the art. Students live in groups of 10 to 12 student homes under the care of a houseparent couple. Milton Hershey School is coed and located in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Priority is given to students living in Pennsylvania.


Scotland School for Vetrans Children


Scotland School for Veterans Children is a free boarding school located in the village of Scotland, Pennsylvania. It accepts children of those who have served and are currently serving in the United States military. Scotland is a coed institution and accepts children from third to twelfth grades. In order to be admissible to Scotland, children must be academically capable and willing to enter the school. Their legal guardian must have maintained US residency for at least three years prior to admission. Scotland's mission is to help children achieve their full potential and become responsible contributing members of society.


Eagle Rock School and Professional Development Center


Eagle Rock School is a specialty boarding school that enrolls students and young adults between the ages of 15 and 17 who do not expect to graduate from high school. Located in Estes Park, Colorado, Eagle Rock is sponsored by a subsidiary of the American Honda Motor Company. The school serves young people who have made mistakes but are passionate about changing their lives. Eagle Rock offers year-round admission and uses service, standards, experiential learning and wild nature to help youth develop their sense of worth in order to become valuable contributing members of society.


Oakdale Christian Academy


Oakdale Christian Academy is a free boarding school accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International. With only 50 students from grades seven through 12 annually, Oakdale provides high-quality education in a family atmosphere. Founded by Elizabeth E. O'Conner and the Free Methodist Church in 1921, the Oakdale Christian Academy is dedicated to helping students achieve new levels of academic and personal success through Jesus Christ. Their students' schedule is highly structured to include class time, chores, activities and free time. Oakdale Christian Academy is located in Lexington, Kentucky.
