Need a truck tool box?
A wood box in a truck bed can be placed behind the cab or on the sides of the truck bed. Having a waterproof lid and ensuring the box rests solidly on the floor of the truck bed are necessary for a proper installation. The box should be secured to the truck bed with L brackets to prevent movement inside the bed. One side of the bracket is fastened to the truck bed and the other side to the wood box. Rust-resistant hardware should be used for all fasteners.
Instructions
1. Place treated lumber underneath the wood box to allow the weight of the box to rest completely on the truck bed. If part of the box extends out and over the top of the bed, protect the top of the truck bed with a bed liner.
2. Seal all cracks on the inside and outside of the box with high-quality exterior caulking. Paint the outside of the box with several coats of exterior paint or varnish.
3. Install L brackets on each side of the box where it contacts the truck bed. Most truck beds have a lip around the top of the bed. Drill holes through this lip to attach one side of the L brackets. Use carriage bolts, washers and nuts to secure the bracket in place. Use wood screws to attach the other side of the L bracket to the wood box.
