Vehicle Shows In Des Moines

Classic hot rods are a big draw at Des Moines auto shows.


Whether you're fan of classic hot rods, 1960s muscle cars or elegant European touring sedans, you can find a car show in Des Moines, Iowa, that focuses on your favorite vehicles. The capital of Iowa hosts several car shows throughout the year, including one that features more than 3,500 beautifully maintained classic vehicles.


World of Wheels


World of Wheels is a traveling auto show that makes an annual stop in Des Moines. The show specializes in hot rods but also features concept cars, 4x4s, trucks and motorcycles. Cash awards are given for the most outstanding vehicles in their class. The 2010 show drew more than 12,000 automobile fans. The 2011 show is scheduled for March 11-13 at the Iowa Events Center in downtown Des Moines, with general admission set at $13.


Goodguys Des Moines, Iowa, Annual Heartland Nationals


More than 3,500 hot rods, muscle cars and other classic vehicles manufactured through 1972 are featured at the Goodguys Heartland Nationals, held each summer at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Show activities include fireworks, hot rod seminars, nightly parties and an automotive swap meet. The 2011 show is scheduled for July 1-3. General admission is $18, and $6 for children ages 7-12.


The Salisbury Concours d'Elegance


The Councours d'Elegance is held each year on the grounds of the Salisbury House and Gardens, a mansion and museum that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The show features antique cars made before 1924, and classic touring cars such as Packards and Rolls-Royces. The 2011 show had not been scheduled as of January 2011, but the 2010 show was held in September. The Salisbury House is at 4025 Tonawanda Drive in Des Moines.
