Begin A Pet Childcare Center

There are many benefits you can receive working with animals, and this is a popular reason why so many people are interested in opening up a dog kennel or pet daycare center. Although the process to get it started may be time consuming, it can very rewarding once you have your pet center open and serving the needs of pet owners.

Instructions

1. Find a location. One of the most critical aspects of a pet daycare center is its location. You will need a lot of room for pets to run and play both inside and outside. You'll also need private areas for each animal. The location should be easily accessible for customers who will drop their pets off and pick them up.

2. Register with federal, state and local governments. You'll need Employer Identification Number from the IRS. You will need to register your business with your state and complete the forms necessary to collect sales tax on the services you provide. Finally you will need to register with your local government to ensure that you are approved for having a large number of animals at one location. Municipalities require business licenses and may have restrictions on the number of animals you can have in one place.

3. Purchase any equipment you may need. Animals need things to crawl on, tug, paw at, and play with, and this means you are going to need to purchase supplies before opening your business. You should also consider what pets need throughout the day such as a bed to rest on, a water or food bowl, toys and more.

4. Develop pricing, hours and marketing plans. Once you have your business set up, it's time to find customers to use the services you provide. You should establish a pricing plan so customers can easily determine what they will pay to have their dog attend your daycare center. In addition you should develop a marketing strategy as well to get as many pets as you can handle into your daily care.

5. Hire staff if needed. Depending upon the size of the daycare center you are planning to open, you may need to hire additional staff to help you. It's important to remember that not only will you be responsible for caring for the animals while they are there, but you'll also put in extra hours in the early morning, evenings and weekends by cleaning the center and managing the paperwork associated with running the business. You may find it is a lot less stressful to hire someone to assist you.
