Search for federal and NJ state bids online.
The federal government and the state of New Jersey use products and services from private firms to complete their work. They purchase everything from paper clips to tanks to catering services from private companies. Companies that wish to sell their products and services to the government can do so by bidding on government contracts. Some of these contracts are competitive whereas others are not. Learning bid on government contracts can be a way for a business to obtain new work.
Instructions
Federal
1. Go to the FedBizOpps website. This website lists jobs from all participating government agencies that seek bids, and is free for bidders to use.
2. Register and set up an account on the website in the box labeled "Vendors/Citizens." Although you do not need to register to search for bidding opportunities, to submit bids, you will need to register your business. You will need to know your DUNS number, which is a 9-digit number used to identify your company. You can apply for and receive a DUNS number free by following the instructions on the form.
3. Search for opportunities on the home page, using various criteria in the drop-down boxes to limit your results. To search for jobs that need to be performed in New Jersey, enter "NJ" in the "Place of Performance" box. It is a good idea to narrow your search to the type of jobs available for your type of business or entity. The government sometimes gives preference to small, minority-, veteran- and female-owned businesses.
4. Prepare your bids for submission. Each bid comes with detailed instructions and requirements. You will need to adhere to the guidelines exactly to avoid having your bid rejected for failing to follow instructions. If this is your first time bidding, it is important to learn do this correctly to stand a chance of placing a competitive bid. Use the government's website to watch training videos on bid effectively. You can also find books and courses on bidding strategies.
State and Local
5. Go to New Jersey's bidding opportunities website. New Jersey offers a single database that lists bid opportunities for state agencies, commissions, authorities and even state colleges and universities.
6. Search the Bid Opportunity Database for opportunities by keyword, agency or category.
7. Register to receive email notifications about new bid opportunities in your area of interest. This will ensure that you receive notice early enough to prepare your bids.
8. Prepare your bids for submission. As with Federal requests, New Jersey requests for bids will have detailed instructions on submit your bid.
