Having a pet can be a great joy to all in the family. Having a pet fit into the family, however, requires training and patience. One important aspect of training a pet is to kennel train him so that he does not have accidents in the home. It is inevitable in the training process that your puppy may have accidents that make it necessary to clean out the kennel. It is very important in these instances not only to clean the kennel cosmetically, but also to remove all scents from it so he does not equate his kennel with using the restroom.
Instructions
1. Wear latex or disposable cleaning gloves. Anytime you are dealing with feces or urine, you should protect your hands from getting dirty. Gloves make it easy to handle the cleaning without fear of getting anything unsanitary on your skin.
2. Pick up the feces with a wipe. A wipe is preferable to a paper towel so that you can wipe off any feces that are stuck to the crate, or kennel. Use wipes to clean off any feces that are stuck to the grates of the kennel.
3. Sop up any urine with a paper towel. Make sure to wipe completely any traces of urine.
4. Spray the entire kennel with a store-bought urine odor remover. You can purchase a pet odor remover from any pet store. Make sure that you spray through the grates and over the entire surface area of the bottom.
5. Use paper towels to dry the area that you have sprayed. Make sure to run the paper towel through the grates of the kennel. Dry thoroughly.
6. Spray disinfectant on the kennel. A household disinfectant works well, or there are special pet disinfectants available as well. The disinfectant will cut through all the lingering smell that may have seeped into the plastic of the kennel bottom. If time allows, let air-dry; if time does not allow, dry thoroughly with paper towels before returning your dog to the kennel.
