Over 100 events are held annually at the Kalamazoo County Fairground.
The Kalamazoo County Expo Center and Fairground hosts over 125 events per year. With over 37,000 square feet of indoor exhibit space, outdoor festival areas, a campground, barns, livestock show arenas, a 4,500-seat grandstand area and a dirt racetrack, the fairground is suited for a diverse variety of events that attract 275,000 visitors annually.
Kalamazoo County Fair
The Kalamazoo County Fair happens for one week during August every year. The fair features a midway with rides and carnival games. Bringing country-style events to the urban setting of Kalamazoo is a major focus of the fair. With livestock shows and auctions, motocross, tractor pulls, lawnmower racing and horse riding, the Kalamazoo County Fair boasts country entertainment every day of the week. Local, regional and national vendors and exhibitors attract visitors with booths featuring several products and activities.
Animal Shows
The livestock and animal shows are not limited to the week of the Kalamazoo County Fair. The 4-H youth development agriculture organization hosted an open horse show and a horse tack sale in 2010. The Kalamazoo County Expo Center and Fairground hosted K-9 Fanciers Dog Shows in March and December of 2010. The Kalamazoo Dog Training Club held four sessions of classes during 2010. The fairground was also home to a monthly Kalamazoo Reptile Show.
Expositions
Many of the events held at the fairground are expositions for popular hobbies and interests. In 2010, these expos covered hobbies like bow hunting, radio airplanes, stamps, coins, model railroads, antiques, pinball, vinyl records and toys. The expos also covered arts and crafts interests like scrapbooking, stamping, weaving, gems and minerals. The Kalamazoo County Expo Center and Fairground also hosts gun and knife shows as well as automobile expos.
Weekly Events
In addition to the wide variety of diverse individual events throughout the year, the fairground features several regular weekly events. The Comstock Lions Club hosts bingo games at the Expo Center every Friday night. Proceeds from the bingo games benefit local community projects. From October to April, the Expo Center hosts an indoor flea market every Tuesday and Wednesday. An indoor farmers' market also runs every Wednesday from October to April.
Charity Events
The money raised by weekly bingo games is not the only charity provided by the Kalamazoo County Expo Center and Fairground. In May of 2010, the Expo Center held an American Cancer Society Relay for Life event. The event consisted of a marathon relay of walkers and runners participating to raise money to fight cancer.
