Adopt A Yorkie In El Paso Texas

Being cute and fluffy can't suppress the Yorkie's "big dog" attitude.

Known as a "big dog in a little package," the small Yorkshire terrier is known for its bravery, hunting skills, a high energy level and investigative personality. In the 19th century, these small dogs were not companions, but ratters in clothing mills. It wasn't until later that these small, silky-coated dogs became treasured companion dogs to the European high society. Because of their popularity as pets there are many Yorkie breeders and even many Yorkies for adoption through various outlets in the region surrounding El Paso.

Instructions

1. Yorkies are people dogs and require daily interaction.

Research Yorkshire terriers thoroughly before completely settling on this breed. The American Kennel Club's website (AKC.org) and the official parent club Yorkshire Terrier Club of America's website (YTCA.org) are both excellent resources to learn more about the breed, what to expect and live with a Yorkie.

2. You might be able to find a puppy, adult or senior yorkie for adoption.

Contact animal and dog rescues in El Paso, such as the Animal Rescue League of El Paso or the Humane Society of El Paso, either by phone or stopping in. Ask to speak to an adoption specialist.

3. These little bundles aren't your typical "purse dog."

Speak with the adoption specialist about Yorkshire terriers, telling them why you want to adopt a Yorkie. Even if the shelter or rescue does not have an adoptable Yorkie, they may know of someone or an organization that does.

4. Your adopted yorkie will be thankful for a new, good home.

Search PetFinder.com for a Yorkie. The website is simple to use, simply enter the information on the left side of the screen. The information is under "Search for a Pet." Select "Dog" under the subtitle "Animal," select "Yorkshire Terrier" under "Breed" and enter in "El Paso, TX" or your zip code under "Location." You can also choose how far the search results go from El Paso as either 100 or 500 miles or "All," which will list all available Yorkies and Yorkie mixes starting with those closest to El Paso.
