Ways To Use Cedar plank Chips

Hamster

Cedar chips are made from the bark of cedar trees. Long known to have insect and moisture repelling properties, cedar chips are popular among homeowners and apartment dwellers. Cedar chips are used for everything from pet kennel bedding to keeping moths away inside the home to flower bed insulation.

Pet Bedding

As opposed to stray or mulch, cedar chips have phenomenal insect repellent properties. Because of this, many pet owners line their pets' cages with cedar chips. Small rodents, such as guinea pigs, hamsters and gerbils, all benefit from cedar chips. Not only does it repel insects, but cedar is also very absorbent, making it ideal for animals that have to walk around cages that they also urinate in.

Don't forget about the bigger pets. Cedar chips in an outdoor kennel will not only keep your pet free from bug bites, but it's also a great insulator. Cedar will go a long way in keeping your pet dry and warm during the winter.

Mothball Alternative

Mothballs, which are toxic to the liver and kidneys of humans, are the most-used item to free a home from moths. Instead of grabbing the mothballs next time you see a moth flying around, grab the cedar chips. Fill a cheesecloth sack with mothballs and hang it on a coat hanger in your closet. The moth should be gone in no time.

Flower Bed Cover

Because of its ability to repel insects and insulate the roots of your flowers, mulch makes great cover for your flower beds. A bonus to using cedar is that it breaks down over tim, and adds much needed nutrients to your soil.

Cedar makes a great insulator during the colder months where snow or frost are always possibilities. Sprinkle a generous covering of cedar chips or cedar mulch over your flowers during the fall and save them from the brutal cold in the winter.
