A judge for the card game Magic: The Gathering is someone that answers questions regarding rules, and makes rulings during sanctioned tournaments. Judges can earn special rewards such as alternate art foil cards for judging tournaments. A judge must display a strong knowledge of the game and understand the rules thoroughly.
Instructions
1. Play sanctioned Magic tournaments. Playing in sanctioned tournaments will give you an idea of how judges make rulings.
2. Read up on the comprehensive rules. The comprehensive rules provide answers for the subtleties in the game that you may be tested on when the time comes to take the judge test.
3. Read the DCI Floor Rules/Magic Tournament Floor Rules. This rules guide tells you the proper procedures for tournament related rulings. You will need to know this to pass your judge test.
4. Mentor under a local judge. Ask a judge in your area if you can help out with the judging. This will help you see the bigger picture of what goes into being a Magic judge.
5. Take the judge test. Any Level 2 judge can administer the test. If your local judge is not a Level 2 judge, they should point you in the direction of a Level 2 judge (since they themselves had to take the test under a Level 2 judge).
