Building kennels out of concrete block is standard construction because it is durable and can be easily cleaned out. Kennels made of concrete block also provide a strong shelter for inclement weather. But concrete block will erode eventually if not treated properly. It must be sealed to keep moisture from causing structural corrosion. Sealing a kennel built from concrete block requires only a few tools and no experience in treating masonry materials.
Instructions
1. Wash down the concrete block kennels with a pressure washer or a stiff-bristled brush and soapy water. Allow the kennels to air-dry thoroughly.
2. Put on gloves, a painter's mask and eye protection. Apply the first coat of concrete sealer to the interior and exterior of the kennel walls, using a paintbrush and/or roller. Let the sealer dry according to the manufacturer's recommendations. This can range from one to eight hours.
3. Apply a second coat of concrete sealer on the kennel walls. Brush on or roll on the second coat of sealant over the exterior and interior walls and allow to dry for the same amount of time.
