Remove Pet Odor Within The Yard

Remove Pet Odor in the Yard

Cleaning away pet's wastes in the yard so that no odor remains can be quite a chore. Pet odors can overtake almost everything, and most pets have the tendency to urinate and defecate in the same area of the yard. Often just cleaning up the area is not enough to deter this because most animals have a keen sense of smell and will find their spot again. But, there are some simple steps and inexpensive products you can use to help remove most, if not all, pet odors from the yard.

Instructions

Keeping the Yard Odor Free

1. Use an enzymatic cleaner to help break down the molecules which are the cause of pet stains and odors. These types of products are easy to find at the local pet supply store. An alternative is mixing one part vinegar, dish detergent and baking soda with three parts water. Apply directly to the area for best results. Do this process daily for four to five days or until the odor is gone.

2. Rake all lawn areas and flower beds to remove other toxins and debris. Wear a dust mask and garden gloves when removing all visible pet waste and feces.

3. Sprinkle pellets of alfalfa or clay-based cat litter on the areas around your flower beds to absorb odors. The pellets of alfalfa have the benefit of giving the soil additional nitrogen for nutrition.

4. Purchase some garden lime for your garden area. Lime, when mixed with water, neutralizes many offensive odors including pet related smells.

5. Pressure wash the concrete area of your yard, including patios, driveways, walls and sidewalks. Water the other areas of your yard briskly and set up sprinklers to soak the areas to help wash away offensive pet odors.

6. Cut all dead grass and foliage and remove the clippings to a compost pile. This will help to minimize any pet odors that may have accumulated on them. Make sure you cover the compost pile with an organic type of material to decrease the smell.
