Safeguard Your Canine's Ft

Protect Your Dog's Feet

Athletic dogs sometimes need extra protection for their working feet. And in icy or snowy cities, salt is often used on sidewalks and streets. If you go out walking with your dog, that salt can dry the pup's feet or enter fine cuts and sting. You may want to protect your dog's feet. Here are some ideas how.

Instructions

1. There are a whole selection of boots and shoes made for dogs. They come in different sizes, colors and styles. Some of the best fitting have Velcro closures that keep the shoes on well. Some are heavy for repetitive use and some are even disposable.

2. There are also products available like the product called 'Tuf-Foot'. You apply this to your dog's feet and it helps toughen up skin to avoid injury. There are also natural waxes that can be used to protect vulnerable toe pads.

3. Balloons are a quick and inexpensive way to make foot covers for the dog's feet. Just cut off the neck and stretch them over the foot. These are perfect solutions for light, disposable use.

4. Always inspect your dog's feet after walking or running him/her in areas where there can be problems. Wild areas offer splinters, thorns and other potential problems. City streets can harbor chemicals and glass shards. Regularly check your dog's feet to keep them safe and healthy. And while you're at is, check that those nails stay well trimmed as well!
