Use extreme caution when using heat for ink tab removal.
It can be frustrating when a customer--after a long, exhausting shopping spree--gets all the way home to find out that the store did not remove the ink tab (the security tag) from the purchased garment. The best solution would to revisit the store to have the ink tab properly removed, but in case you cannot go back, you can quickly access your clothing with an easy solution.
Instructions
1. Turn a kitchen stove on to the highest setting (or use a lighter) to heat an old butter knife for 30 to 60 seconds. Lay out a sheet of newspaper on a flat, hard surface. Place the ink tab on the flat service to ground it during removal, reducing the chance for the ink to spill onto garment.
2. Use the heated knife to cut and melt open the end piece of the ink tab where the entry to the ink vials is located. Reheat the knife as needed. Use a thin and sharp pocket knife to shave away the end piece.
3. Slide the ink vials carefully from the ink tab once the end is cut away. Break the ink tab in two (it will be much easier to bend once the ink vials are out) to break the tab free from the clothing.
4. Invest in a AMD3050 electronic remover, a MK125 or a gator tag remover if you cannot successfully remove the ink tab yourself. Specialized removal equipment can loosen up the ink tabs grip without puncturing the ink vials onto the clothing.
