Sell Your Pet Inside A Newpaper

When it's time for your pet to move on, advertise it well so you can find a loving home.

Dogs need loving homes with owners who have the time to properly care for them. Perhaps your dog might require more space than you have, or maybe it poses a safety risk around your children. Whatever your reason, selling your pet dog can be a difficult process. One of the most effective ways to sell your dog is in a newspaper, which could reach a large audience of potential dog owners.

Instructions

1. Gather any relevant paperwork on your dog. Make copies of the vaccination paperwork for the dog. Find its registration and genealogical records if you're selling a purebred dog.

2. Groom your dog. Make sure your dog is clean and presentable to its potential owner. At a minimum, wash your dog's fur and brush its teeth.

3. Decide how much you'll charge for your dog based on its breed, health, age and level of obedience. Have a price range in mind but be flexible in your price negotiations.

4. Write an ad for the newspaper. Include the dog's breed, gender, age and any helpful information, such as whether it is purebred. Include your phone number or email address so you can be contacted.

5. Clean up your house, yard and the dog's kennel. Many potential dog owners will want to see the dog in person before purchasing it. The cleanliness of your house, yard and the dog's kennel could be important to your potential buyer as well. Uncleanliness could be indicative of a dog's poor health or poor behavior.

6. Contact your local newspaper to submit an ad. Use the 50states.com website (50states.com/news) to find the home page of your local newspaper. Click on the "Contact Us" link find their phone number to call in the ad. Consider submitting the ad to newspapers that circulate in adjacent cities, as a potential dog owner might be willing to drive a greater distance for the right dog.
