Attach Wooden Posts Wood Flooring

A remodeling project usually will involve new construction that needs to be adapted to the existing structure of the home. One good example of this is the homeowner that wants to save his beautiful wood floor, but also wants to add some new features to the home. If you are in a situation where you need to attach a wooden post to a wood floor, use a method that not only provides a sturdy attachment, but also preserves the beauty of the wood floor by using a post anchor that is virtually hidden.

Instructions

1. Purchase a post anchor system that uses a steel base with a steel tube welded to it that will extend up inside of the post from the bottom. These can be purchased at a home improvement or hardware store.

2. Read the instructions for the post anchor to determine the appropriate size hole to make in the bottom of your post. Secure the post and use a hole saw to make a hole for the tube on the anchor in the center of the bottom of the post.

3. Insert the tube of the anchor into the hole in the base of the post and press it down until the anchor base is flush against the post. You may need to tap it down with a rubber mallet as it will be a snug fit.

4. Drive the provided lag bolts through the holes in the anchor and into the post.

5. Place the matching piece for the anchor base in the location for the post on the wood floor. Fasten it to the floor with the provided lag bolts.

6. Raise the post and mount the anchor base attached to it into the matching piece you have attached to the floor. Fasten the two pieces securely together with the provided bolts. The result will be a post that is attached to your wood floor with only a fraction of an inch of anchor visible.
