Pet Fencing Options

Pet fencing helps keep pets contained and safe.

If you want to keep your pet from running off, or protected from outside elements, fencing is the best option. Pet fencing has a variety of options to choose from along with a range of prices depending on the type and amount of fencing.

Chain Link Fencing

Use chain link fencing when you want a barrier between your pets and restricted areas. Chain link fencing is good for visibility and versatile for creating any type of contained area from kennels to entire yards or portions of property. Caution should be used with this fencing type if children are in the area as an animal can still bite or scratch through the fencing. Avoid this fencing if you are concerned about pets, children or other animals climbing the fence to access or leave the property.

Electric

Use electric fencing when containing larger animals such as horses, large dogs or domesticated farm animals (pigs, goats, donkeys). Electric fencing consists of a single strand of electrified wiring strung out between vertical poles. The strand is connected at one end to an electric source or solar charger. Caution should be used if children, small pets or foot traffic passes close to the fence because of the risk of electric shock.

Underground

Underground fencing is often labeled invisible fencing. Use this fence for smaller to mid-size animals to keep them contained within the yard or near the house. This is most often used for cats and dogs. Underground fencing operates similarly to electric fencing except the wire strand is buried below ground. Control of the pet occurs from a collar placed on the animal when they are outdoors; when the pet approaches the fence, a noise or slight shock occurs at the collar to warn the pet.

Wood

Wood fencing comes in two forms; completely enclosed and fence with open spaces. Use solid panel wood fencing for complete enclosure of the area and protection of the pet. Solid fencing will keep any pet from going through it. Open fencing, such as split rail fencing, can hold larger animals if the opening is small enough and the fence is high. Attach wire mesh to the fencing to provide visibility and protection when using split rail fencing.

Vinyl

Vinyl fencing has many of the same capabilities as wood fencing. Vinyl fences have greater durability and lower maintenance than wood fences. Vinyl fencing also has the same structural problems as wooden fences when using an open-faced design.
