Finding money for animal shelters is rewarding and challenging.
Raising money for animal shelters is a noble cause. When the economy begins to experience a downturn, oftentimes the family pets are the first ones to suffer. In addition, many shelters experience an increase in the number of abandoned and neglected pets during the winter months, resulting in a desperate need for money. There are a variety of ways that can help you find money for shelters, ranging from individual efforts through combined efforts of multiple groups.
Instructions
1. Contact local businesses and see if you can set up donation jars at their locations. Have these jars decorated with pictures of lonely pets that will tug at the heartstrings of potential adopters. Ideally, you should look for businesses that deal with pets or pet-related areas, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't approach larger prospects as well. Talking to the management at local Wal-mart and Target stores, for example, can sometimes result in corporate sponsorship.
2. Set up online funding. This can be done with Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and any local social networking sites. In addition, contact any local newspapers and make them aware of any fundraising endeavors that you'll be doing to assist the animal shelter.
3. Set up an auction. Go to individuals and businesses for donations, asking for either material items or for donated services. Target individuals and businesses that have connections to animals, such as local pet groomers, pet stores and veterinarians.
4. Contact local school officials and teachers and set up a program to enlist the aid of students to help raise money for the animal shelter. This can either be done with donation boxes in the classrooms or through some school activity, such as a bake sale or a carnival.
5. Contact an event planner to assist in hosting a charity event. Charity events are big draws, and many individuals and businesses are willing to assist in participating in a charity event. The reason for this is simple---it provides tremendous name recognition and publicity. In some cases, the event planner will actually donate part of their time for the cause.
6. Join with other shelters and groups and create one large event. While it might not generate as much money as it might have individually, there will usually be more publicity found as well as greater attendance.
