Transport a Dog on an ATV
All-terrain vehicles, commonly known as ATVs, are a popular way to travel in areas not accessible to larger vehicles. ATVs are often used on farms and ranches as work vehicles, and also as recreational transport for hunters and fishermen. Many people enjoy taking their dogs with them while using an ATV, but it can be dangerous to let them run free around moving vehicles.
Instructions
1. Set your crate on the rear rack of your ATV. The rack on your ATV is designed to carry heavy objects, so it will easily be able to support even large breeds. Be sure to center your crate to keep your dog stable as you accelerate and turn corners.
2. Strap the crate to the rack with bungee cords. Place one strap under the front of the crate, hooking it to the rack. Then pull it over the top of the crate, securing it to the rack on the other side. Add another strap around the middle and one at the back of the crate to keep the crate stable while your ATV is running.
3. Place your dog's favorite bed or blanket inside the crate to make him as comfortable as possible during the ride. Make sure that the bed or blanket is washable because it could get wet or splashed with mud or grime as you transport your dog.
4. Add a couple of your dog's favorite toys to her crate to keep her occupied while traveling. Most dogs will lie quietly in their crates, but your dog may become bored if you are making a lengthy journey. You can give her a treat or two between stops to keep her happy and let her know that she is a good dog for riding quietly.
5. Pick your dog up and set him inside the crate once you are ready to leave. Do not allow him to jump into the crate himself, as he could get hung up in the rack and injure himself. If he is very large, you can place one of your ATV loading ramps on the rack and let him walk up into the crate.
6. Buckle your dog's collar around her neck and attach the lead before allowing her to exit her crate. The collar and lead will make her feel secure and allow you to easily control her once you have reached your destination.
