The only spotted breed of dog, people love Dalmatians both for their spots and their ability to make spirited pets. Dalmatians evoke warm memories of the movie "101 Dalmatians" for many children, making them an easy and popular choice for various costumes and dress-up games. According to the American Kennel Club, Dalmatians are intelligent, alert and speedy creatures. With a little face paint, you can turn your child into one of these lovable rascals.
Simple Spots
For a quick Dalmatian look, the only necessary material is a bit of black face paint. If children want some hands-on involvement and are of a suitable age, allow them to press their thumb or forefinger into a small amount of black paint. In front of a mirror, instruct them to firmly press their finger onto their face. Otherwise, an adult can create this look on a child. Simply use your finger to create small or larger dots all over the face. After just a few minutes, your child will sport a cute, easily washable Dalmatian look.
Eye Patch Dalmatian
For a more involved Dalmatian look, use a small brush to paint your child's entire face white, avoiding the area around the eyes. After allowing the white paint to quickly dry, use a small brush or a combination of small and large brushes to paint black circles on her face. Symmetrical dots look nice, but to achieve a more authentic Dalmatian face, you can create various sizes and shapes of black patches. Utilize both circles and more free-form patches shaped like kidney beans, thick squiggles or random shapes. For a finishing touch, paint the area around one of the eyes black, extending partially down the cheek and above the eyebrow. This will create a fun "black eye patch" look that will add to the overall Dalmatian idea.
Red Tongue
To add to the Dalmatian authenticity, use red paint to create a tongue. A simple red tongue extending from the side of the lips painted down the chin will look cute. If you have paint that is safe to use on the lips, paint the lips and halfway down the chin red. Paint one black line in the middle of the tongue, whether it is on the side of the mouth or in the middle. Additionally, you can paint the area above the lips and below the nose black, almost like a mustache. To complete the effect, use a thin brush to create three lines extending up into the cheeks on each side of the mouth. Place a few tiny dots around the "whiskers," and the Dalmatian look is complete.
