Creating A Dog Fence Home

Building a Dog Fence Home

Location

Choose a location for building your dog fence home where your dog will have some shade and protection from the hot sun and from inclement weather conditions. Of course, it is also important to build your dog fence home close enough to your house so that your dog can offer some protection from strangers who approach. You also want your dog fence close enough to make it convenient to use and to allow you to give your dog plenty of attention. Unfortunately, when people build a dog fence too far from the house, they tend to either neglect their dog, or neglect to place their dog into the fence.

Size

The size that you need to build your dog fence home will depend on how much time your dog will spend in the fence, the size of your dog and your budget. You want to have a doghouse or some kind of shelter in your dog fence if your dog will ever be left unsupervised in the fence. If your dog will spend many hours each day in the dog fence, than build it long enough to allow your dog to run and exercise. The fence height should be high enough to prevent your dog from escaping but also high enough to prevent an animal from entering and injuring your dog. If you cannot build your fence tall enough to accomplish this, consider placing a top or roof over your dog fence.

Materials

A variety of materials are available for building a dog fence home. Welded wire, mesh, chain link, treated lumber or combinations of these materials are some options for building your dog fence. If your dog is a digger, you may want to consider a wire bottom or pouring a concrete base for your dog fence. The materials that you choose should take into consideration the size and characteristics of your dog as well as what your budget will allow. Doing as much of the work as you can by yourself will save money. Assembling sections of dog fence can be as easy as bolting clamps into place if you purchase a kit for the fence.
