Hemostats are helpful tools in removing hair from a bichon frise's ears.
Bichon frise dogs, along with many other types of breeds, often have hair growing inside their ears. This fine, sometimes curly hair may not seem like it is a big deal, but it can cause severe problems. Healthy ears need air to flow inside them to keep them dry. When hair is blocking that airflow, ear infections can result.
Instructions
1. Place your bichon on a table with a nonslippery surface. Being off the ground typically makes it harder for the dog to run away. Stand next to your bichon so that you are facing its side.
2. Lift your bichon's ear flap over so that the inside of the ear is exposed. Identify the hair that is growing inside.
3. Place your less-dominant hand on the dog's head to keep it still. You can also hold the ear flap back with your hand while stabilizing the head.
4. Sprinkle baking soda on the fingers of your dominant hand, states Doggies.com. Baking soda makes it easier to grab onto the hair.
5. Grab the hair with your fingers and apply a quick, upward motion to pull it out. You will likely have to do this several times to remove all of the hair.
6. Use blunt-tipped tweezers to remove the hair from the ears if you prefer. The tweezers may latch onto the hair better than your fingers; however, be very careful not to pinch any skin while grabbing the hair. You may also use hemostats to remove the hair.
