House Break A Labrador Retriever Puppy

More than 90 percent of Americans live with dogs in the home, according to the Pet Education website. If you adopt a Labrador retriever as your pet, your dog will look to you as the pack leader. Potty training your puppy is just as important as obedience training. Your puppy needs to know what's acceptable and what's not. Without guidance and nurturing on your part, your dog will think that your home is her backyard.

Instructions

1. Crate train your Labrador puppy. The size of the crate should be large enough for your puppy to be able to turn around in, as indicated by The Dog Training Secret. website However, the crate shouldn't be large enough for him to use the potty and be able to lay next to it.

2. Walk your puppy every two hours. Although Labrador retrievers have larger bladders than most breeds, your puppy should be on a schedule to understand that walks are associated with outside potty time.

3. Take your puppy outside when she first wakes up in the morning and after her meals. Let her also go outside if you hear her whimpering in the middle of the night.

4. Use a leash to guide your puppy to places you want her to use outdoors. Your dog will eventually understand that this is her potty place.

5. Take your dog outside immediately if you see her start to urinate. Gently say "No," and place her in her potty area.
