The Pomeranian has made a name for itself through the world -- even in the world of British royalty, as Queen Victoria was said to have owned one. These extremely small and lively dogs come in many colors and types, one of which is the Brindle.
Size
One of the most noticeable things about the Brindle Pomeranian is the size. Brindle Pomeranians are extremely small in comparison to other dogs and only reach a top size average of about 7 lbs.; the smallest ones weigh in at about 3 lbs.
Look and Behavior
Brindle Pomeranians, like other Pomeranians, contain a short muzzle. The ears sit high on the head and are generally perky. Pomeranians generally have almond-shaped eyes that maintain a very dark brown color year around. The key difference in Brindle Pomeranians lay in the color of the coat. Brindles typically have a normal base color that varies from golden-brown to orange-red; however, they also have very distinctive black stripes on the body.
Background
Pomeranians have a long and distinctive history. Although they may appear extremely small, this dog species at one time was much larger. The Pomeranian is thought to be a descendant of the Spitz, which existed in the northern regions of Europe. The majority of these large dogs were thought to be three to four times heavier than modern Pomeranians. The key change came when Queen Victoria's dog, a small version of the Pomeranian, led breeders to selectively breed for small Pomeranians, ultimately resulting in a shrinkage of the species.
Personality and Health
All types of Pomeranians have a very extroverted personality, making them excellent dogs for those who have the energy to take care of them. However, they're not without health issues. According to Dogbreedinfo.com, Pomeranians suffer from kneecap dislocations frequently. Heart issues and skin irritations also are common. On average, a healthy and normal lifespan for a Pomeranian is about 15 years.
