Be Friendly

There are benefits to being kind and friendly to those around us. Be friendly to people, and it will make work and life easier and more fun. Being mindful of your interactions, and changing your mode of communicating will make all the difference.

Instructions

1. Smile at your co-workers and the people you meet on your daily errands. Remember that the girl at the coffee counter is at work, and a smile will make her job easier. This tactic also goes for the people you see every day in the office.

2. Email with a smile on your face, and avoid capitalizing words. Overusing caps to get your point across can come across as aggressive. Be friendly in your emails and they will be more effective.

3. Ask how people are doing, and wait for their responses. It may come out as a habitual phrase, but if you are asking a question be friendly enough to wait for the reply. Don't continue walking, and pay attention to how those around you are doing to increase your workplace morale.

4. Be neighborly. It is a practice that has gone away somewhat with the hustle and bustle of every day life, but giving your new neighbor a welcome basket is a wonderful way to be friendly and make them feel at home.

5. Become receptive to the needs of those around you. If you notice that your co-worker is downhearted, do something simple to cheer them up. Take them to lunch, or bring them a donut from the morning meeting.

6. Listen to what people tell you. If your boss is complaining about the new finance system, don't immediately write him off for being a whiner. Ask him if there is anything you can do to help with the change. This also goes for others in your office or in your life. Taking the time to listen can make a huge difference to the people you meet.
