Get Papers On The Rabbit

Healthy rabbits can live seven to10 years.

Getting papers on a rabbit involves multiple steps, but if you are serious about breeding and showing rabbits, it is well worth the time and effort. To get papers on a rabbit, you must first become a member of the American Rabbit Breeders Association, Inc., or ARBA. Every rabbit registered by the ARBA, must be physically inspected by a licensed registrar. You must provide the registrar with a three-generation pedigree for the rabbit you wish to register.

Instructions

1. Go to http://www.arba.net and click on "Forms."

2. Click on the link titled "Membership Application."

3. Print the ARBA membership form and fill in your information. Include a check or credit card number to pay the membership fee of $20. Once your membership application is approved, you can register your rabbits. Mail the completed form and payment to:

ARBA

P.O. Box 5667

Bloomington, IL 61702

4. Refer to the list of licensed registrar's on the ARBA website under the link titled "Registrars."

5. Write down your rabbit's pedigree. The pedigree must show at least three generations. The ARBA website states "The pedigree must show the name and/or ear number, weight, and variety of the parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents (3 generations) of the animal being registered. (all ancestors in the 3 generations MUST be of the same breed as the animal being registered)."

6. Contact a licensed registrar from the list (for your rabbit's breed) that lives near your area, and make an appointment to have your rabbit examined and the registration form filled out.

7. Take your rabbit and its pedigree to the licensed registrar. After the rabbit is examined, the registrar will send the registration form to ARBA, where it will be entered into the computer. The certificate of registration will then be sent to you.
