Build a Dog Run With Air Conditioning
An AC unit in your dog run will give your dog a chance to be in a run that is safe and secure, but also climate controlled. A dog run with AC is best if you have a harsh climate or if your dog spends a lot of time in the dog run. It is important to make sure that your dog doesn't get overheated, so a dog run with AC is a great way to allow your dog his freedom without worrying about his health.
Instructions
1. Create an outdoor run that is partially in a shed. This will help you keep the run cool and still give your dog a chance to be outdoors.
2. Make a fenced-in area inside your shed. It should be at least 6 feet by 6 feet. Make sure the fence is at least 5 feet tall. Have a gate in the fence so you can take your dog in and out. The fence needs to be up against one of the walls in the shed.
3. Cut a dog door into the shed so that the door is inside of the fenced in area in the shed. Install a premade dog door.
4. Put up fencing to make an outdoor run that attaches to the same wall that already has a dog door in it. Your outdoor run should be at least 4 feet wide and 10 feet long.
5. Put a roof on the outdoor run. This is important because it will keep the dog in if he is a jumper or a climber, and it will keep pests and predators out of the dog kennel. It will also help shade him from the sun.
6. Install a small air conditioning unit inside the shed. Do not place the unit in the indoor portion of the kennel. Instead, place it in the opposite corner of the shed. That way, your dog won't be able to access the air conditioning unit.
7. Set the AC unit on the lowest setting, and put a timer on the AC unit so you can keep track of the temperature in the shed.
