Breed Of Dogs Which Are Insurance Hazards

Doberman Pinscher

According to a 2005 study conducted by Firepaw.org, a national research and education group that focuses on animal welfare, "high risk" breeds have a bite risk of only two to five times that of other breeds of dogs, and most of these high risk breeds must be trained to bring that instinct out. Yet, insurance companies continue to try to raise policy premiums based on specific breeds of dogs.

Rottweiler

According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), the rottweiler's ancestors were brought in by the Romans when they were invading Europe. Recognizing the controllable guarding and herding instincts, the Germans bred the rottweilers for these purposes. While a rottweiler is not inclined to trust strangers until it has been introduced properly, it is a lovable pet with its friends and family. rottweilers have more of a "wait and see" attitude when it comes to guarding territory, according to the AKC. While they have been bred to be guard dogs, they have a tendency to "look before leaping," which gives a person time to let the dog know that he is not a threat.

Doberman Pinscher

Although it is true that the Doberman pinscher was bred to be a police and guard dog, it also makes a loyal and obedient pet. Trained properly, a Doberman pinscher will not attack unless it is commanded to do so by its owner. The AKC says the Doberman is a noble dog that will deliver a warning (and back it up) to guard the owner's property. Although this is true, when a Doberman is kept as a pet, it is usually a lovable, friendly dog to both the owners and other people.

Chow

While the true origin of the chow remains unknown, the AKC maintains that it is of ancient Chinese origin. The chow has been listed as a hazardous dog because of its unpredictable personality. While a German shepherd might growl and bare its teeth before biting, the chow will snap with no warning. The same is true for dogs that are mixed with a high strain of chow in their blood. The chow can still be a loving pet around its family under normal circumstances. Unfortunately, it can be a danger to the person caught unaware of its skittish and often unpredictable personality.
