There are a number of different crates that can be used for dogs.
A large crate can have many purposes. Many people use crates for their dogs, whether they are a puppy or full grown. Dogs use these crates as a miniature home and a place to sleep. Crates can be made from a few different materials, including wood and metal. Wood crates are common for dogs and are much easier to make than metal crates. Here are instructions on make a large wooden crate.
Instructions
1. Decide on the size the crate is going to be. Have measurements for the height, width and depth of the crate. Then decide on the type of wood to use. Pine is the most common and is easier to work with than most other wood. Plywood or some form of it will also be needed.
2. Once the size is decided, cut the pieces to the desired sizes. Use plywood for the top and bottom sections of the crate. Then cut slats to the height desired for the crate and place a slat every few inches along the base of the crate. These slats can be cut from 1-by-4-inch pieces of pine.
3. Glue the slats to the base then turn the crate upside down so it is resting on its slats and nail the slats to the base. Then measure the opening on the end. This opening will be the door of the crate. Cut two boards to fit the width of the door and as many boards as necessary to fit the height of the door. Then glue the slats lengthwise to the two short boards. Nail the slats to the boards on both ends.
4. Attach hinges to the door of the crate and to the opening of the crate. Make sure to attach the hinges so the door swings open. Then attach a latch to the door and the crate to allow the door to close. When finished sand the wood to avoid splinters and do not paint or stain if there is going to be animals in the crate.
