Replace A Chainlink Gate

Remove and install chain-link gates with ease.

A gate in a chain-link fence offers a convenient way to enter and exit your yard or other secure areas around your home. A damaged gate, however, can compromise the security the fence provides. Replacing a chain-link gate is relatively simple and only takes a few minutes to complete by removing only the hinges from the damaged gate and installing the new gate all at the same time, without needing to disassemble either the gate or the fence.

Instructions

1. Loosen the nut and bolt on the top gate-frame hinge with the socket wrench and adjustable wrench. Slide the hinge downward on the gate frame, away from the pin on the gate-post hinge.

2. Lift the gate up to remove it from the other gate-post hinge. Loosen the nut and bolt on the bottom gate-frame hinge. Remove the nut and bolt from both gate-frame hinges. Remove the hinges from the gate.

3. Attach one of the old gate-frame hinges to one side of the frame of the new chain-link gate above the bottom tension band that holds the tension bar on the gate. Replace and tighten the nut and bolt on the hinge.

4. Attach the other gate-frame hinge to the same side of the gate frame below the top tension band. Insert the bolt into the hinge and thread the nut on finger-tight. Slide this hinge down on the gate frame.

5. Place the opening in the bottom gate-frame hinge onto the pin of the bottom gate-post hinge. Slide the top gate-frame hinge up so that the opening in the hinge fits onto the pin on the top gate-post hinge. Tighten the nut and bolt on this gate-frame hinge to fasten it to the gate frame.
