Picture frames can enhance your photos. Showcase your family, friends, pets and special occasions with home made paper picture frames. These personalized frames also make thoughtful handmade gifts, especially when decorated by children. Consider creating themed frames that correspond to the pictures you are framing.
Instructions
1. Decide on the size of picture you want to frame. The best size for this project is either a 4x6 or a 5x7 picture.
2. Determine if the picture frame will hold a landscape (short and wide) or a portrait (tall and skinny) photo.
3. Measure the size of the picture opening on heavy corrugated paper using a ruler and a pencil, being sure to work from the back side of the paper. When measuring, make sure your picture opening is smaller than the actual photo by at least 1/2 inch on each side. Cut along your pencil markings with the Exacto knife.
4. Cut the heavy corrugated paper around the outer edges, making the frame as wide as you want it.
5. Take a second sheet of corrugated paper, and cut it to the same size as the first sheet based on the outer measurements and glue it to the back of the first sheet. Only put glue on three sides of the frame towards the very outer edges. This will allow you to slide the picture into the frame when it is completed. Glue it so the corrugated part of the paper is facing outward on both sides.
6. Cut a triangle shape out of a piece of the scrap corrugated paper. Make sure that the triangle goes at least half the way up the back of the frame and at least two thirds of the way across. Cut off the top point of the triangle.
7. Fold the other two points of the triangle inward until it can stand on its own. Glue to the back of the frame creating a stand.
8. Decorate the frame by gluing designs made out of decorative paper punches, colored paper and/or patterned paper. Use scrapbook embellishments, buttons and other decorations. If you want to use rubber stamps, first stamp the image on to cardstock paper and hand color. Then cut out the stamped image and glue to the frame.
